I wish someone would look into the “shakedown scheme” at exit 102 on the Maine Turnpike, by the Turnpike Authority.
This is how they work it; Around mile marker 101 drivers pay a toll, then, If you exit at exit 102, in order to go to the “rest plaza” to take a break, you now leave to re-enter the turnpike only to find that there is “another” toll booth where you are charged another toll.
This is not only a racket, I feel that any good lawyer could make a case for fraud or theft.
If you do the math for the amount of vehicles tricked into this trap, the Maine Turnpike Authority has an unjustified income.
As a side note, I complained to the toll taker, She chuckled and stated that I should have picked up a pass at the door of the rest area. Further, I called the Turnpike Authority and was informed that I had the right to complain to my State representatives. SURE, like that will do something, HA.
Its funny that they can pay toll collectors $18 an hour way above average for this states worker. and have so many over paid poeple working for them. when it comes to maintaining the road and putting more EZpass lanes in they need to come to the tax payers for a loan. kind of stupid when they pay so much. Maybe they could start poeple at less money instead of so much when they are just watching tv or doing their homework. I wish I got paid to do my school work or watch tv. I do not feel bad for these poeple seeing as they keep going up on the tolls for nothing,
Many of us have worked our way up to the amount we are paid now. Many of us take a lot of abuse from customers. We receive sticky money and get sworn at and face being killed everyday as we walk across lanes. Cars are suppose to be doing only 10mph yet they fly through at speeds of 30-50mph and some even faster. My booth has been crashed into more than once. Glass b roken all over the place and luckily enough on 2 occasssions the employee was out of the booth otherwise serious injury may hace occurred.
We have little respect from the higher up at the turnpike. It was once told to us by an individual in high control, he can’t wait until he can get rid of all toll collectors.
Many of us are courteous to our customers and smile. If you have a disgrunted one then it is up to the public to report those individuals for you are the due respect and kindness. Like any business speak up and be heard until you get results.
Our jobs as toll collectors are dwindling but in the office they are growing. They are finding every way posssible to fire or make them quit in te past year. Yet not one person in the office has to face these issues. They continue to hire who they want in the office. Many toll collectors have sought out jobs in the office but to no avail they are turned down because they wanted someone else.
We are allowed TV’s and are generally only used on the late shifts for it is to busy to watch in the day time. It does help to pass the time for there is not much else to do in the booth which is smaller than an outhouse. You sit in there on days like today. The temps are 100 easy in the booth and u have room for maybe one fan and believe me that doesnt help. As for the winter, well again when the temps drop boy can it be cold out there. We are often plowed right in when it snows. many of us have had to shovel ourselves out of oour booths. So being a Toll Collector isn’t all it is cracked up to be. yet being in a nice cozy office onn Congress street is……
Has anyone looked at how many supervisors for fare collection mta has? Why the need for that many. Looks like the waste is upper Mngt. Also. How come legal expenses are so high each year for preti flaherty when it lists the have an internal lawyer.

You think we start out at 18 dollars an hour? Most state workers don’t work rotating schedules and weekends and/or holidays. People have to start worrying about their own problems.
Data indicates 17 supervisors. To manage 308 collectors. Sounds a bit over kill to me especially with indicated salaries associated with it.
Most of these supervisors do absolutley nothing. some sits around in their little cubbiehole playing games on the computer. The only real work they muct do is check supplies and do payroll once a wk. thats it.
Ahh. turnpike Mngt. Some have grown marijuana on the turnpike property, been caught then promoted to supervisor then sexually harassed employees Dana and stacy. Victims leave but this supervisor Mr b still at mta. Waste is not at lower ranks its Mngt that. Many other instances throughout mta. Someone should be held accountable but instead they go after collectors with sin sheets that they won’t give us data for.
So true… they go after us toll collectors yet pay people to go away. Stacy and Dana told me they each got 200k to leave. Sue r also told me she got 200k after mta put her on a jack hammer after a sex harass complaint when she had an injury. When does it end?
Anyone who thinks toll collectors are overpaid, go work in York for one summer on a rotating schedule.. that includes weekends
